ragnarock by Steve Fowler

fire is not appreciated in our time
so Loki comes free, auditioning
the pantheon of Aesir is forlorn to find they
evoke images in the minds of the
people. They had thought themselves forgotten
Odin, snug in a blue cloak, hidden
and huddling from the camera, explains it
is because of a mythology department and
a subsequent film. Fenris is accidently
allowed off his leash, while his father is dis
tracted by two cars, cracking their horns
engines explode as he has them collide
Balder sleeps on the mountain of Gimli
undisturbed, melody faint in his dim ears
Fenris eats the sun and the world goes dark
Surtr is all that can be seen, the size of the
westfield centre, his sword glowing like a neon
disc, a pregnant dialect, a broken fiery arm
he cannot get his motor started, he has tripped
over the greedy varg and that light too
is extinguished. Ragnarok is rescheduled
